Hmmm.....

Okay, this post is going to be a little difficult to type cause:
1. I just had a huge CUP of merlot and seriously I haven't eaten anything today (um. I had like 1/2 cup of mangoes)
2. My study partner Alex is blasting reggaeton right next to me. This was supposed to be an accounting study session but apparently it's become a wine-drinking, mini-disco at Samson. I have to drive later.

Ok. So I have a dilemma. I want want want a Roman Catholic wedding.
Problem 1. Oskar and I are not registered at any parish in Santa Barbara
Problem 2. You have to be a registered parishioner for at least 1 year.
Problem 3. I can't ask a priest to marry us in a site OUTSIDE a church. A catholic wedding has to take place in a chruch, cHURCH. (see i can't type anymore).

Now, I know a guy, Ray, who says he can help me get married at the Santa Barbara Mission which I would love and I know Oskar would too. But:
We already booked our reception venue on a Sunday, under the assumption that we could have a priest officiate the courthouse ceremony. If we were to obtain permission to get married at the Mission (25% chance) we would have to cancel the reception site. We couldn't switch it to a Saturday because all the Saturdays are booked already. Catholic weddings are never held on Sundays.

So, my question is:
Should I try to get a wedding ceremony at the Mission and cancel the reception site if we get the pastor's permission? Or, should Oskar and I just have a civil ceremony at the courthouse and have a smaller Catholic ceremony later on.

Help!!!!!!!

Must See!

I just finished watching my new favorite show. It’s called “Say Yes to the Dress” and it airs Friday nights on TLC. It’s a reality show set in Kleinfeld, the legendary New York bridal salon. The show follows the ordeals of the consultants as they try to help brides find “the one” (the right dress, not man).
The store is not just a bridal salon, it’s THE bridal salon. With thousands of samples, it’s almost impossible for a bride leave the store empty handed.
Why do I love this show? It’s like a live-action wedding magazine. The dresses, even the ones I wouldn’t wear, are beautiful. Most importantly, I appreciate how they post the price tag of the dresses that the brides tried on. It was a much-needed reality check. I found out that the gorgeous Kenneth Pool dress I had dog-eared in one my bridal magazines costs $11,000. Ha!
The brides stem from different economic and ethnic backgrounds, as do the consultants. Of course, they also have different tastes in styles. Camille S. from Canada, epitomized the idea of “bigger is better.” She was getting married at Disneyland and wanted to be a true Cinderella. Her dress, which cost more than $12,000, was a huge tulle ball gown with intricate beading and crystal accents. To complete the look, she opted to wear a crown. She said that she was the best looking bride she had ever seen.
Uh-huh.
Now, I think I’m pretty conservative when it comes to the clothes I wear. I think a wedding dress should show off a woman’s figure tastefully. However, there are some women out there who want to leave as little to the imagination as they can get away with. Jennifer G., for example, was in the market for something sexy and form fitting and that showed off her “boobies” Classy.
Well, I’m not going to go to New York anytime soon (dang it). In the meantime I am going to resolve to stay away from chocolate covered pretzels and peanut clusters. In the end, it doesn’t matter what kind of dress one wears - the most flattering style is not going to hide 20 excess pounds. To the gym!

Vestidos!

When I posed the idea of dresses in different colors and styles, I wasn't trying to make shopping for a bridesmaid dress a confusing ordeal. I just thought that it would be cool to have a wedding that wasn't so traditional. I love colors and hate committing to just one shade or making my friends wear a color or style they hate. So I saw this picture on Marthastewart.com and it was like a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me. Of course, I already said that I wanted like a dark green color but if you like another shade of green that would look good too, then by all means...

Why did I do this?

The wedding is in August so I am not worried about it yet. I just decided that this would probably be a better forum to let my homegirls know what the heck is going on with the planning. I think this will make it a lot easier to understand the wedding Oskar and I have envisioned/are envisioning. The last emails I sent about colors and dresses may have worried some of you so I figured maybe I could post ideas more clearly in a blog. I know some of you go on websites in your spare time, so hey, this is just one more to look at. So. This is also for you to tell me if I am making a huge error choosing ecru over eggshell or whatever...and also, to fill me in on the latest chisme and/or to spread rumors.

I hope this is a good idea.
